Merciless massacres
Applications for the construction of community centres are delayed and encounter high bureaucratic hurdles. Christians are discriminated against or even excluded from public office. But all this seems almost harmless compared to the merciless massacres of men, women and children. In no other country in the world are so many Christians killed as in Nigeria.
Central Nigeria has also become the scene of regular attacks on Christian villages as a result of Islamist expansion from the north. The states of Plateau and Kaduna are particularly affected. The main actors are the terrorist organisation Boko Haram and Fulani fighters. Security forces and law enforcement agencies are - to put it mildly - sluggish when it comes to protecting Christians and prosecuting terrorists, meaning that the attackers usually get away with it.
ACP has been active in Nigeria since 2020. We work together with a local church in Jos. Our project work focuses on helping Christians who have fallen victim to Islamist terror. All too often, their only option was to flee. They found themselves in camps or tried to find shelter in villages or towns with better security. Emergency aid is essential for their survival.
Children are particularly affected by the situation. Many have lost one or even both parents. In addition to the trauma of the violence they have been exposed to, they are also uprooted due to their flight. We pay their school fees and thus give them the chance to at least continue their education and find new prospects for their lives. Agricultural and self-help projects help women in particular to build a new livelihood.
